The Teatro Nuovo (New Theatre) is a theatre located on Via Montecalvario in the Quartieri Spagnoli district of Naples. The original theatre was an opera house designed by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro. Completed in 1724, it was also known as the Teatro Nuovo sopra Toledo and the Teatro Nuovo de Montecalvario. The theatre specialised in the opera buffa genre and saw the world premieres of hundreds of operas in its heyday. These included fifteen of Cimarosa's operas and seven of Donizetti's. The present theatre is the third to have been erected on the site following its destruction by fire in 1861 and again in 1935.

Nacházelo se v samém srdci španělské čtvrti na Via Montecalvario. Architekt měl k dispozici velmi omezený prostor, přesto se mu podařilo vybudovat divadlo pro cca 1000 návštěvníků. Vaccaro va haver de dissenyar el teatre per a un lloc de petites dimensions. Tot i així va aconseguir un teatre amb una capacitat de mil seients. El teatre té la forma clàssica de ferradura, dividit en cinc nivells, cada un dividit en tretze llotges. Al setembre 1723 es van dur a terme l'estrena de La Locinna d'. El teatre es va convertir ràpidament en el temple de l'opera buffa i va veure l'èxit de Domenico Cimarosa, Niccolò Piccinni i Giovanni Paisiello, l'òpera Il Socrate immaginario del qual va ser posada en escena en aquest teatre el 1775. La nit del 20 de febrer de 1861, un incendi va destruir completament el teatre i va ser reconstruït segons els plànols de l'arquitecte Ulisse Rizzi, que n'era copropietari. El teatre va entrar de nou en servei el 1864. En 1866 va tenir lloc l'estrena mundial d'I due mariti de , el 1870 Il cacciatore delle Alp de D'Arienzo, el 1878 Griselda o La marchesa di Saluzzo d', el 1879 La figlia del diavolo de D'Arienzo, en 1887 Le trappole d'amore de Scarano, el 1894 L'amico Francesco de , on Enrico Caruso va fer el seu debut. V noci z 20. února 1861 divadlo zcela vyhořelo. Byl obnoveno podle plánů architekta Ulisse Rizzi, který byl jeho spolumajitelem. Do provozu bylo znovu uvedeno v roce 1864. Hrály se zde nejen opery, ale sloužilo i činohře. Premiéru zde měla i díla slavného italského dramatika Eduarda De Filippa. 12. ledna 1935 divadlo znovu do základů vyhořelo a teprve v roce 1985 bylo na tomto místě postaveno nové divadlo, které nese historický název Teatro nuovo.
