"Velvet Goldmine" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Originally recorded on 11 November 1971 during the sessions for his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the song was left off the album and subsequently released as a B-side (along with "Changes") of the UK re-release of "Space Oddity" in 1975. Velvet Goldmine was originally named "He's a Goldmine" and is considered a mid-tempo rock song containing Mick Ronson's Les Paul signature guitar licks. Bowie has stated he feels the song is "very David Bowie".
