Koncem padesátých let začal pracovat pro vydavatelství Liberty Records. Nejprve pracoval v propagačním oddělení, později se stal producentem a nakonec vedoucím oddělení . Společnost opustil v roce 1966. Během své kariéry spolupracoval s mnoha hudebníky, mezi něž patří například Bobby Vee, JJ Cale a Del Shannon. Hierna werd hij muziekarrangeur, talentscout en muziekproducent voor Liberty Records en vervolgens voor zijn eigen labels Viva Records en Garrett Records. De opkoop van oude filmrechten bracht hem een gouden tijd totdat hij in 1980 op 41-jarige leeftijd pensioneerde. (nl)
