Raymond James French, MBE (born 23 December 1939) is an English former rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. French played at international level in both codes. He won four caps for England in rugby union in 1961 as a lock forward, then moved to rugby league as a second-row and played for his home town club, St. Helens, before going on to play at Widnes. After training as a school teacher, he taught at Cowley School in St. Helens, Lancashire, where his local counterparts included Brian Ashton who taught at Stonyhurst College.

  • Raymond James « Ray » French, né le 23 décembre 1939 à St Helens (Merseyside), est un joueur de rugby à XV et rugby à XIII anglais évoluant au poste de deuxième ligne dans les années 1960 et 1970. Il débute en rugby à XV rejoignant même l'équipe d'Angleterre en 1961 et y dispute le Tournoi des Cinq Nations au poste de deuxième ligne. Cette même année, il change de code pour se tourner au rugby à XIII et s'engage à St Helens RLFC où il évolue en deuxième ligne. Sa réussite à St. Helens entre 1961 et 1967 l'amène à intégrer le temple de la renommée du club, En 1967, il s'engage à Widnes, il est même appelé en sélection de Grande-Bretagne de rugby à XIII pour la Coupe du monde 1968.
