The Onomasticon compiled by Eusebius of Caesarea (more properly, On the Place-Names in the Holy Scripture, Περὶ τῶν τοπικῶν ὀνομάτων τῶν ἐν τῇ Θείᾳ Γραφῇ, Peri tōn topikōn onomatōn tōn en tē Theia Graphē, in Greek) is a directory of place names, or "gazetteer", a primary source that provides historical geographers with a contemporary knowledge of early 4th-century Palestine and Transjordan. It sits uneasily between the ancient genres of geography and lexicography, taking elements from both but serving as a member of neither. It is, according to many, the most important book for the study of Palestine in the Roman period.

(en) L'Onomasticon (Περὶ τῶν τοπικῶν ὀνομάτων τῶν ἐν τῇ ϑείᾳ γραϕῇ, «Sui toponimi contenuti nella Sacra Scrittura») di Eusebio di Cesarea fu un'opera composta prima dell’anno 320 d.C., presumibilmente negli anni che vanno dal 292 al 320 d.C.. Successivamente fu tradotta da San Girolamo negli anni 389-391 d.C.. L’opera originale, andata perduta, si presentava come un vero e proprio repertorio di geografia e topografia, che conteneva, in ordine alfabetico, i nomi geografici biblici corredati da brevi notizie storiche, e che costituiva la quarta parte di un'opera di geografia biblica più vasta. Dalla prefazione dell’Onomasticon, si apprende che Eusebio aveva pubblicato anche alcune opere andate perdute: i Nomi dei popoli della Bibbia, uno scritto sulla Palestina antica con la divisione delle dodic (it) Het Onomasticon is een handboek retoriek uit de tweede eeuw na Christus van de hand van . Het Onomasticon is het enige overblijvende Griekse lexicon met een onomastieke structuur. Dit hield in dat het werk niet alfabetisch, maar per onderwerp geordend was. Van alle werken die Julius Pollux schreef, is het Onomasticon het enige werk waar fragmenten van werden teruggevonden. Het originele Onomasticon zou tien boekdelen hebben bevat. In het Onomasticon vindt men onder andere een catalogus met 27 komediemaskers voor mannen en 17 voor vrouwen terug. (nl)
