Milton John Hinton (June 23, 1910 – December 19, 2000) was an American double bassist and photographer. Regarded as the Dean of American jazz bass players, his nicknames included "Sporty" from his years in Chicago, "Fump" from his time on the road with Cab Calloway, and "The Judge" from the 1950s and beyond. Hinton's recording career lasted over 60 years, mostly in jazz but also with a variety of other genres as a prolific session musician. He was also a photographer of note, praised for documenting American jazz during the 20th Century.

  • Milt Hinton, celým jménem Milton John Hinton, (23. června 1910 – 19. prosince 2000) byl americký jazzový kontrabasista. Byl jediným potomkem svých rodičů. Otec od rodiny odešel v době, kdy byly synovy tři měsíce. Vyrůstal na západě Mississippi v domě s matkou, jejími dvěma sestrami a jejich matkou. V roce 1919 se rodina odstěhovala do Chicaga. Ke svým třináctým narozeninám získal v roce 1923 svůj první nástroj – housle. Na housle následně hrál ve školním orchestru. Později zkoušel hrát i na další nástroje, včetně tuby, až se nakonec usadil u kontrabasu. Svou první stálou práci získal v roce 1930 v kapele , v níž hrál zprvu na tubu, později na kontrabas. Později hrál i s dalšími hudebníky. (cs)
