Michael Dunn (born 1942) is a New Zealand art historian. Dunn was born in Ashburton in South Canterbury, and attended Canterbury School of Fine Arts (Ilam), graduating with a degree in painting. He continued his studies at the University of Melbourne and University of Auckland, receiving a PhD in art history. Dunn taught art history at the latter institution from 1965, becoming head of the university's Art History Department. He was appointed head of the university's Elam School of Fine Arts in 1994. He retired in 2006, at which point he was given the title of Emeritus Professor of Fine Arts.
