Margaret Nicholson (c. 1750 – 14 May 1828) was an Englishwoman who assaulted King George III in 1786. Her futile and somewhat half-hearted attempt on the King's life became famous and was featured in one of Shelley's first works: Posthumous Fragments of Margaret Nicholson, published in 1810.

Ihr erfolgloses Attentat inspirierte Percy Bysshe Shelley und seinen Freund Thomas Jefferson Hogg zu den 1810 publizierten Posthumous Fragments of Margaret Nicholson. Nicholson, die Tochter eines Friseurs, ging mit 12 Jahren in den Dienst als Stubenmädchen und arbeitete in reichen Häusern. Nach einer Liebesaffäre mit einem anderen Bediensteten wurde sie entlassen und verdiente ihren Lebensunterhalt durch Handarbeiten. Sie trank nicht und fiel nicht weiter auf. (de)
