Joan Hinton (Chinese name: 寒春, Pinyin: Hán Chūn; 20 October 1921 – 8 June 2010) was a nuclear physicist and one of the few women scientists who worked for the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. She lived in the People's Republic of China after 1949, where she and her husband Erwin (Sid) Engst participated in China's efforts at developing a socialist economy, working extensively in agriculture. She lived on a dairy farm north of Beijing before her death on June 8, 2010.

Oktober 1921; † 8. Juni 2010) war eine US-amerikanische Kernphysikerin und eine der wenigen Frauen, die am Manhattan-Projekt in Los Alamos mitarbeitete. Unter anderem war sie am Bau der ersten Kernreaktoren unter Leitung von Enrico Fermi beteiligt und war Augenzeugin des Trinity-Tests. Nach dem militärischen Einsatz der Atombombe in Japan wurde sie eine entschiedene Gegnerin der Kernwaffen. Ab 1949 lebte sie als überzeugte Maoistin in der Volksrepublik China, wo sie und ihr Ehemann in der sozialistischen Landwirtschaft Chinas arbeiteten. Dort entwickelte sie auch landwirtschaftliche Maschinen wie eine automatische Melkmaschine. Sie lebte auf einer Farm nördlich von Peking bis zu ihrem Tod am 8. Juni 2010. (de)
