| - English Billiards (oder einfach nur „Billiards“ genannt), das heute als erste populäre Variante des Lochbillards angesehen wird, entstand im 18. Jahrhundert in England. Gespielt wird auf einem 12-Fuß-Tisch mit sechs Taschen, der vor allem außerhalb der British Commonwealth Staaten heute gemeinhin als Snookertisch bezeichnet wird, was historisch nicht korrekt ist, denn das English Billiards gab es bereits vor dem Snooker. English Billiards, das mit drei Bällen gespielt wird, ist heute noch in Großbritannien und den British-Commonwealth-Staaten populär, wenn auch inzwischen hinter Snooker rangierend. Vor allem in England, Indien, Neuseeland und Australien, aber auch in Thailand, Südafrika und Österreich hat diese Variante nach wie vor eine treue Gefolgschaft. (de)
- English billiards, called simply billiards in the United Kingdom and in many former British colonies, is a cue sport that combines the aspects of carom billiards and pool. Two cue balls (one white and one yellow) and a red object ball are used. Each player or team uses a different cue ball. Si gioca su un tavolo da snooker (campo da gioco 3569 mm per 1778 mm), con 3 bilie da snooker (da 52,5 mm), una bianca, una gialla e una rossa.Analogamente al biliardo all'italiana e alla carambola, ognuno dei due contendenti ha una propria biglia battente, la bianca per il giocatore A e la gialla per il giocatore B.Ad ogni tiro i giocatori devono colpire una fra la bilia battente avversaria e la rossa e, con imbucate e/o carambole, realizzare punti.
