David Roy Shackleton Bailey FBA (10 December 1917 – 28 November 2005) was a British scholar of Latin literature (particularly in the field of textual criticism) who spent his academic life teaching at the University of Cambridge, the University of Michigan, and Harvard. He is best known for his work on Horace (editing his complete works for the Teubner series), and Cicero, especially his commentaries and translations of Cicero's letters.

Nach dem Besuch der Lancaster Royal Grammar School, deren Rektor sein Vater war, studierte „Shack“, wie er von seinen Freunden genannt wurde, Altertumswissenschaften an der University of Cambridge. Während des Krieges war er in der militärischen Dienststelle in Bletchley Park tätig, die sich erfolgreich mit der Entzifferung des deutschen Nachrichtenverkehrs befasste, um danach an die Universität Cambridge zurückzukehren, zunächst als Dozent für Alttibetisch, dann für Altertumswissenschaften am Jesus College und seit 1964 an seinem alten College, Gonville and Caius.
