Biruchiy contemporary art project (Ukrainian: Міжнародний симпозіум сучасного мистецтва «Бірючий» [miʒnɐˈrɔdnɪj sɪmˈpɔz(j)iʊm sʊˈtʃɑsnoɦo mɪsˈtɛtstwɐ biˈrutʃɪj]) is a leading residence of contemporary art in Ukraine. It was founded in 2006 by the Association of Contemporary Art Researchers. The project is held annually in May and September on the Byriuchyi Island, located in the Sea of Azov. Since 2016, offsite residences have been operating in other European countries (Poland, 2016–2017; Montenegro, 2019). Fifteen seasons of Biruchiy contemporary art project were attended by 228 artists and 12 art groups from 19 countries. Since 2014, a part of participants goes to Italy, since 2017 — to the United States.
