Friends reported that he had started skipping classes and changed his appearance in late 2005. His younger brother Ibrahim said it was not uncommon for Durrani to disappear for weeks at a time. Represented by , he was denied bail in August 2006, and again in December 2008 by judge James MacPherson. Durrani pleaded guilty in January 2010 and was sentenced to 7½ years in prison. Due to the Canadian "two for one" rule he was released for time served after one day in the Maplehurst Correctional Complex. (en)
