Alfred Theodor Brauer (April 9, 1894 – December 23, 1985) was a German-American mathematician who did work in number theory. He was born in Charlottenburg, and studied at the University of Berlin. As he served Germany in World War I, even being injured in the war, he was able to keep his position longer than many other Jewish academics who had been forced out after Hitler's rise to power. In 1935 he lost his position and in 1938 he tried to leave Germany, but was not able to until the following year. He initially worked in the Northeast, but in 1942 he settled into a position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A good deal of his works, and the Alfred T. Durch die Teilnahme am Kriegsgeschehen im Ersten Weltkrieg zunächst geschädigt, gelang es ihm erst im Jahre 1928, mit der Promotion summa cum laude abzuschließen. Wegen seiner Probleme gründete er mit anderen Kriegsteilnehmern seines Instituts die , um Studienanfängern ein einfacheres Studium zu ermöglichen. Er beschäftigte sich in Lehre und Forschung vor allem mit Zahlentheorie und klassischer Algebra in Bezug auf die Theorie der Matrizen zunächst in Deutschland und seit Ende der 1930er Jahre – als eine Emigration für das Überleben als Jude unumgänglich war – in den Vereinigten Staaten. Bereits während seiner Assis (de) Alfred Theodor Brauer (Charlottenburg, 9 de abril de 1894 – Carolina do Norte, 23 de dezembro de 1985) foi um matemático teuto-estadunidense que trabalhou em teoria dos números. Estudou na Universidade de Berlim. Serviu a Alemanha na Primeira Guerra Mundial, e mesmo ferido na guerra manteve seu cargo durante mais tempo que outros professores judeus que foram despedidos após a ascensão de Hitler ao poder. Em 1935 perdeu seu posto e em 1938 tentou fugir da Alemanha, intento que somente conseguiu em 1939. Trabalhou inicialmente na Northeastern University, e em 1942 ocupou um cargo na Universidade da Carolina do Norte em Chapel Hill. (pt)
