The Agnes Fay Morgan Research Award was established in 1951 by the Iota Sigma Pi honorary society for women in chemistry. The award is given for research achievement in chemistry or biochemistry to a woman not over forty years of age at the time of her nomination. Individual chapters, Iota Sigma Pi members, chemists, and groups of chemists may nominate eligible chemists for the prize.

| - جائزة 'اجنس فاي مورجان' هي جائزة أصدرت في عام 1951 من قبل 'لوتا سيجما باي' وهي الجمعية الشرفية للمرأة في مجال الكيمياء. تمنح الجائزة للرائدات في مجال الكيمياء والكيمياء العضوية، ولكن يشترط ألا تتجاوز أعمارهم عن 40 عاماً. يمكن للأقسام الفردية، الكيميائيين وأعضاء اللجنة المتأهلين ترشيح المستحقين للحصول على الجائزة. سميت الجائزة باسم اجنس فاي مورجان ( 1884-1968 ) وهي عالمة في الكيمياء الحيوية واخصائية تغذية. ولدت في بيوريا، إلينوي بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. وقد درست في جامعة شيكاغو وحصلت على درجة البكالوريوس ثم الماجستير ومن ثم الدكتوراة . كما قامت بالتدريس في جامعة كاليفورنيا، بيركلي من عام 1915 حتى عام 1954، حيث ساعدت في تأسيس قسم الاقتصاد المنزلي الذي أصبح بارزا على المستوى القومي. وأسست مورجان علم التغذية، نتيجة إلى ابحاثها المكرسة على تحليل العناصر الغذائية في الأطعمة، وأيضاً اهتمامها بوجود الفيتامينات والبروتينات بشكل منتظم أثناء معالجة الطعام، ولم تنسى أيضاً الآثار الفسيولوجية لنقص الفيتاميتات بالجسد. ولايمكن إنكار دورها في اكتشاف حمض البانتوثنيك وأهميته في تأدية وظيفة الغدة الكظرية والتصبغ. ساعد عملها لصالح الحكومة والوكالات الخاصة في إيجاد طرق متطورة لتجفيف الأطعمة. - The Agnes Fay Morgan Research Award was established in 1951 by the Iota Sigma Pi honorary society for women in chemistry. The award is given for research achievement in chemistry or biochemistry to a woman not over forty years of age at the time of her nomination. Individual chapters, Iota Sigma Pi members, chemists, and groups of chemists may nominate eligible chemists for the prize. The award was named for Agnes Fay Morgan (1884–1968), biochemist and nutritionist, born in Peoria, Illinois, USA. She studied at the University of Chicago (BS, MS, PhD), and taught at the University of California, Berkeley (1915–54), where she helped organize (1919) what was to become a nationally outstanding home economics department. A founder of the science of nutrition, her research focused on the analysis of nutrients in foods, the stability of vitamins and proteins during food processing, and the physiological effects of vitamin deficiencies. Especially noteworthy was her discovery of the role of pantothenic acid in adrenal function and pigmentation. Her work for government and private agencies included the development of improved methods of dehydrating foods. (en)

Sie studierte an der University of Chicago und lehrte an der University of California. Dort half sie 1919 bei der Organisation des Hauswirtschafts-Bereichs. Als Mitbegründerin der Ernährungswissenschaft konzentrierte sich ihre Arbeit auf die Analyse von Nährstoffen in Nahrungsmitteln, die Stabilität von Vitaminen und Proteinen während der Verdauung und den physiologischen Effekten von Vitamindefiziten auf den menschlichen Körper. Besonders bemerkenswert war ihre Entdeckung der Rolle der Pantothensäure in den Nebennierenfunktionen und der Pigmentierung. Ihre Arbeit für die Regierung und private Auftraggeber beinhalteten die Entwicklung und Verbesserung der Entwässerung von Lebensmitteln. (de)
